“It all happened so quickly. It was incredibly emotional.”
On a dreary, rainy day in Brazil, Mayane Rodrigues witnessed an inspiring act of kindness right outside her apartment window. As the rain poured down, she noticed a young girl walking home from school. What happened next touched her deeply.
While walking on the wet sidewalk, the girl suddenly stopped. She set down her umbrella, removed her backpack, and took off her jacket. Then, Rodrigues noticed a soaking-wet stray puppy at the girl’s feet — and realized what was happening.
A Heartwarming Act of Kindness
Rodrigues watched as the young girl gently scooped up the shivering puppy. She held the puppy in her arms, cradling the dog against her. The girl, to Rodrigues, was like an angel saving a life.
“It all happened so quickly. It was very emotional,” Rodrigues shared. Inspired by the moment, she recorded a video and shared it with a neighborhood group. That’s how she learned the identity of the kind stranger.
Her name is Cibely Stiegelmair, and she’s only 13 years old. But on that day, Cibely did something remarkable — she saved a life.
Bringing the Puppy Home
When Cibely arrived home, her mother, Rejane Stiegelmair, was initially concerned. “She was very wet from the rain and had blood on her shirt. I thought she’d been hurt,” Rejane told The Dodo. But Cibely reassured her — the blood came from the injured puppy she found alone in the rain.
Thankfully, the puppy’s injuries weren’t severe. A little love and care were all it needed to start healing. Cibely, with her kind heart, knew she couldn’t leave the helpless dog behind.
“Cibely has always had a soft spot for stray dogs,” her mother said. “If she could, she’d bring them all home.”
A New Beginning for Pretinha
The family welcomed the puppy, now named Pretinha, into their home with open arms. No one knows exactly how Pretinha ended up stranded on that sidewalk. One thing is clear: thanks to Cibely, her future is brighter than ever.
“As parents, we’ve always been proud of Cibely,” Rejane said. “But after this, we’re even prouder!”
