Foster Dog Feeding Her Puppies in the Sunshine Shows How Healing a Loving Home Can Be

There is a popular quote in the dog community that reads: “Saving one dog will not change the world. Surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.” Author Karen Davis said this in her book, A Dog’s Guide to Humans. Anyone who’s rescued a dog can feel this truth in their hearts, too.

For dog foster mom Rachel Fusaro, experiencing this firsthand with her foster dog, Daffodil, has been nothing short of miraculous. The sweet dog was rescued at the very end of her pregnancy. After a difficult birth, she and her 9 new babies are resting up and healing under Rachel’s loving care. On September 18, the foster mom shared a sweet moment from Daffodil’s new daily life. It is so heartwarming to see just how well the new family is doing.

This is what every new mama dog and her puppies deserve: Sunshine, warmth, and all the love in the world! Daffodil seems so relaxed for a new mom with nine new babies to take care of. I’m sure it’s because she’s being taken care of, too. She’s no longer underweight or malnourished, and she has all the support she could need from her loyal foster mom.

“Such a beautiful mom and babies,” wrote a commenter named Jeanne. I couldn’t agree more! Daffodil’s black and white fur is just as gorgeous as her deep brown eyes. Let’s take a look back at the litter’s first ‘dinner’ to get a better look at the newborn puppies.

They look like tiny versions of their mama! These black and white puppies were just 15 hours old. They were getting their first meal and bonding with Mom. Daffodil tried her best to rest up. Getting a good amount of sleep can’t be easy with such a huge litter of puppies. But this new mom is doing a great job!

Fostering Saves Lives

If it weren’t for Rachel, Daffodil would have welcomed her babies while alone in the animal shelter. Anything could’ve happened if she had major complications during birth. Her rescuers worked as fast as they could to make sure she had somewhere safe to go. Plus, now the shelter has room to take in another dog in need!

Rachel committed to fostering all ten dogs. She will continue until the puppies are weaned from their mom’s milk at around 8-10 weeks old. Then, she’ll help them find the best forever homes! However, not all dog fostering experiences are this long-term. Some shelters and rescues even need weekend fosters. They also need homes for sleepovers. So please consider helping out a local dog in need. If everyone fostered an animal once or twice, there would be so many more pets in loving forever homes!
