Pearl the Chihuahua: World’s Shortest Dog at 3.59 Inches!

Pearl, a Chihuahua, holds the record as the world’s shortest living dog—smaller than a TV remote! Born weighing less than 1 ounce, this 2-year-old pup now measures just 3.59 inches tall and 5 inches long, about the size of a dollar bill, according to Guinness World Records.

Her owner, Vanesa Semler, jokes that Pearl is “just a little taller than a teacup.” Pearl comes from a line of record-breakers. Her mom is the sister of the previous titleholder, Miracle Milly. Miracle Milly passed away in 2020.

Pearl was measured at the same hospital where she was born in Orlando, Florida. Following Guinness’s strict rules, officials measured her height three times, from paw to shoulder blades.

Her fame soared after she made her TV debut on a talent show in Milan, Italy. Semler says Pearl is a bit of a diva, loving chicken, salmon, and fancy outfits. Despite the spotlight, Pearl remained cool and calm in front of the cameras.

Though she’s the shortest living dog today, Pearl isn’t the shortest ever. That honor goes to a Yorkshire terrier from the 1940s, standing just 2.8 inches tall.

While tiny dogs like Pearl are undeniably cute, it’s important to remember that many “teacup” dogs face serious health issues. They are sometimes bred unethically. Always research breeders or consider adopting from a shelter to ensure a healthy, happy pet!
