Shelter Dog Desperate For Attention Tries To Squeeze Through Kennel Bars

At San Bernardino Animal Services, one dog is making her need for love impossible to ignore.

Meet Eliza — a sweet, affectionate pup who’s been at the shelter for a few weeks. But this gentle soul isn’t adjusting well to life behind bars. Instead of lying quietly in her kennel, Eliza has made it clear she’s craving the warmth of a loving home. Her heartbreaking attempts to squeeze her head through the kennel bars captured the hearts of everyone around her.

Eliza’s Cry for Help Caught on Camera

Alice Chow, a regular volunteer and animal photographer at the shelter, immediately noticed something different about Eliza.

“She just kept wagging her tail and whining, trying so hard to get my attention,” Chow shared. “She didn’t want to be ignored — she wanted connection. The only photos I could take were of her desperately poking her head through the bent bars, trying to get closer to me.”

The scene was touching. Eliza had clearly been trying to escape her kennel—not to run away, but to find someone to love her. Her spirit shone through despite the cold steel surrounding her.

A Desperate Plea for a Forever Home

Chow, moved by the interaction, knew she had to do more. She shared the images with a friend, Lois Chisholm, who immediately took action by posting Eliza’s story on Facebook to help her find a forever home.

“Eliza has such a puppy-like, playful spirit,” Chisholm wrote. “She’s loving, sweet, and full of life — she just needs someone to give her a chance.”

The social media post included all the adoption details potential pet parents would need, and now both Chow and Chisholm are hoping the right person sees Eliza and opens their heart.

Waiting for a New Beginning

Every day, Eliza waits — watching, hoping, dreaming of a life beyond the bars. All she wants is a family to call her own, someone to cuddle with on the couch and play outside in the sunshine.

If you’re looking for a loving companion who’s already proven her loyalty and desire for love, Eliza is ready to fill that role. Her story is not just about a dog in a shelter — it’s about the deep desire every pet has to love and be loved.

How You Can Help

If Eliza’s story touched your heart, consider sharing her story or visiting the City of San Bernardino Animal Services to meet her. Sometimes, one share or one visit is all it takes to change a life forever.
