❤️ “It looked like they were making a little heart with their paws…”
At the Humane Society of York County (HSYC) in South Carolina, surrounded by the everyday hustle of animal rescue, something incredibly tender unfolded — a moment so heartwarming it stopped a shelter worker in her tracks.
Her name is Colleen, a spunky, affectionate 13-week-old kitten who arrived at the shelter with a mystery. She has no tail — no one knows exactly what happened to it, but what’s clear is that this tiny fluffball hasn’t let that slow her down for even a second.
From the moment she set paw inside the shelter, Colleen made it her mission to spread love. She’s playful, sweet, and always on the lookout for a cuddle or a companion. But it wasn’t just her boundless energy or charming nature that caught everyone’s attention — it was the way she found love in the most unexpected place.

🐾 A Moment That Stopped Time
One morning, Vicki, a longtime rescue attendant at HSYC, entered the cat room for her routine check when something made her pause — and smile.
There, through the thin metal bars of neighboring kennels, Colleen and another kitten, adorably named Pedro Pascal, were reaching for each other. Their tiny paws locked together, forming what looked like a delicate heart.
“It just melted me,” Vicki shared, still visibly moved. “It wasn’t just cute — it was like they were saying, ‘We need each other.’”
The two kittens were holding paws, despite being in separate kennels — a silent connection that spoke volumes about the love and companionship animals can share, even in the most uncertain times.
🐱 Why Two Kittens Are Better Than One
Colleen, ever the social butterfly, thrives when she’s around other kittens. Vicki and the rest of the shelter staff often encourage potential adopters to consider bringing home two kittens — not to push numbers, but because of the emotional and developmental benefits for both animals.
“They learn from each other, comfort each other, and they’re less lonely,” Vicki explained.
“It’s a better start to their new life.”
Despite her bubbly nature and loving heart, Colleen keeps getting overlooked as more and more younger kittens arrive at the shelter. But those who know her see just how special she is.
“She’s the best of both worlds,” Vicki said. but she also just wants to curl up in your lap. She’s a cuddle bug with so much love to give.”
🏡 Ready for Her Forever Home
Colleen is spayed, fully vaccinated, and ready to go home — preferably with a feline friend like Pedro Pascal. The hope is that someone out there will recognize the rare magic these two kittens share and open their heart to both.
And while Colleen may not have a tail, she has something far more important — a heart full of love and a paw reaching out for her future.
