💔 The Pain That Medicine Couldn’t Heal
While his physical scars began to fade, Balto’s emotional ones ran deeper. The sweet, energetic husky spent nearly eight long months in the shelter, constantly overlooked because of his breed — and his intense separation anxiety.
“He was lovable, playful, and full of life,” shared Luis Sanchez from Austin Pets Alive! “But he just needed someone who could see past the anxiety.”
After a failed trial adoption, Balto returned to the shelter more anxious than ever — chewing at his kennel bars, terrified and heartbroken. That’s when Luis made a life-changing decision:
“I called my wife and said, ‘I think I’m bringing a dog home today.’”

Luis and his wife opened their hearts and home to Balto. They brought him to breweries, dog-friendly events, and everywhere in between — sharing his story across social media and hoping the right family would notice.
And then, they did.
👧 A Little Girl and a Big Love
One day, a family from New Braunfels reached out. They were searching for a husky that could grow up alongside their young daughter. Luis loaded Balto into the car and drove an hour to meet them.
The moment Balto walked into their home, something magical happened.
Their little girl gently took his leash and proudly gave him a tour of the house.
“This is my room… and this is Mommy and Daddy’s room,” she said, beaming.
Balto didn’t need time to adjust — he just knew. He’d found his person.
