Who is Maya Harris, Kamala Harris’ sister? Plus, highlights from her DNC speech
Maya Harris, the younger sister of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, is one of the vice president’s closest confidants. Like her sister, Maya is a lawyer. She served as the campaign chairperson of Kamala’s 2020 presidential campaign. In addition to her role as a lawyer, Maya previously served as the vice president of democracy, rights, and justice. This was at the Ford Foundation, a philanthropic organization. Maya also worked as a senior policy adviser for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. She is a graduate of Stanford Law School.
During her speech at the Democratic National Convention, Maya mentioned their mother, Shyamala Gopalan. She played a significant role in encouraging and inspiring Kamala’s career. Maya expressed how their mother would have been proud of Kamala’s achievements and then urged her to continue working hard.
