Triton, a sweet dog with a broken leg, was taken to the VCA Greater Savannah Animal Hospital. It seemed like he was finally about to get the care he desperately needed. His owner parked and got him out of the car. Then, the owner did the unthinkable. They drove away, leaving Triton abandoned in the parking lot. The heartbroken dog watched in confusion as his family disappeared, leaving him alone and scared.

Abandonment Caught on Camera

Triton’s abandonment didn’t go unnoticed. The staff at the animal hospital quickly spotted the abandoned pup in the parking lot and rushed out to help. With his leg already injured, the team wasted no time in giving Triton the medical attention he needed. They performed X-rays and applied a cast to his leg, offering their services free of charge. Their primary concern was getting Triton the help he deserved after the heart-wrenching ordeal he had just been through.

The hospital staff contacted the Humane Society for Greater Savannah. They stepped in to ensure Triton would be taken care of moving forward.

Therefore, they began searching for a foster family. Shelter life can be overwhelming. This is especially true for a dog who has just experienced abandonment. Triton needed a quiet space to recover both physically and emotionally.

“He is a timid boy. He just needs love. He opens up when he feels safe,” Nina Schulze, adoptions manager at the Humane Society for Greater Savannah

A New Beginning for Triton

Fortunately, it didn’t take long to find the perfect foster family for Triton. Now, he’s recovering in a peaceful home filled with the love and care he deserves. According to a post on the Humane Society’s Facebook page, “He is doing really well. He is recovering in peace and quiet. He is surrounded by a whole lot of love. We are so proud of how quickly he adapted to his cast. We love watching his little hop out the front door. This sweet boy deserves all the love!”

Despite the rough start, Triton is finally experiencing what it feels like to be cared for. His days of being abandoned and heartbroken are now firmly behind him.
