Dog Missing Parts of Brain Saved from Euthanasia, Now the ‘Happiest Dog in the World’

When a dog is born with a medical condition or a disability, they often face heartbreaking challenges. Sadly, many of these dogs are abandoned or euthanized by owners unwilling or unable to handle their care. However, every dog, regardless of their condition, deserves a chance to live and be loved. They deserve to experience joy, as long as they’re not in pain.

One such dog, Moose, was given that chance. And today, not only is he thriving, but he’s also known as the “happiest dog in the world.”

Moose’s story began in 2016 at a pet store. A woman named Jennifer Osborne walked in and immediately spotted him. With a fixed smile and a prominent underbite, Moose stood out — and not just because of his looks. It was soon discovered that Moose had a congenital brain abnormality, which left him missing parts of his brain.

Jennifer learned that Moose’s condition likely began before birth. His nose had been pushed into his skull while he was still in the womb. This led to a host of health issues: a severe underbite, a crooked nose, a misshapen skull, and eye abnormalities.

Despite all of this, Jennifer fell in love with the little dog instantly. She was most worried about the fear that if Moose ended up in the wrong hands. He might be put down because of his health complications. Determined to give him a loving home and a real chance at life, Jennifer adopted Moose herself.

The road ahead wasn’t easy. Moose’s medical conditions required constant attention. Jennifer recalls that his seizures would affect both his body and brain. They would leave him foaming at the mouth with his entire body twitching. An MRI revealed just how serious his condition was. Parts of his brain were missing. He had a cyst where his sinuses and forehead should have been. He didn’t even have a proper forehead or sinuses.

Despite these alarming medical findings, the rest of Moose’s brain was functioning well. His neurologist explained that Moose’s condition was something rarely seen in dogs. Moose would experience seizures for the rest of his life. Medication could control them.

Jennifer embraced every challenge that came with Moose’s care. And in return, Moose brought boundless joy and love into her life. Despite his medical issues, he is a bright, energetic dog with an infectious spirit. “We’re incredibly lucky Moose survived everything he’s been through,” Jennifer shared. “He’s a miracle in every sense.”

And Moose seems to know just how lucky he is. With his signature broad smile and his joyful demeanor, he lives each day with gratitude and enthusiasm.
