Actress Dianne Scott, like many people, once believed that pit bulls were dangerous animals. This perception was shaped largely by the media. But, her perspective changed after adopting her own pit bulls. Today, she’s a vocal advocate for the breed. She spreads her message on platforms like Instagram.
Back in 2012, when Scott’s husband suggested adopting a pit bull mix from a shelter, she hesitated. “My gut reaction was, don’t we want to get a safe dog?” she recalls. Despite her first doubts, they decided to take a chance on a year-old white pit bull mix named Hurley. It didn’t take long for Hurley to win her over with his affectionate, goofy nature. Scott soon found her views on pit bulls transformed.
Hurley’s loving demeanor completely shifted her perception of pit bulls being “bad.” Just a year later, the couple welcomed another pit bull into their home. It was a tiny, playful 8-week-old named Wednesday. Her joyful nature perfectly complemented Hurley’s. Their bond was so strong. Scott started an Instagram page, A Tale of 2 Pitties, to share their heartwarming friendship and hilarious antics.
“The two of them were my entire world,” Scott reflects. Their lives were filled with joy and adventure. Sadly, Hurley was diagnosed with lymphoma. He passed away at just four years old. As Hurley’s health declined, Scott and her husband worried. They wondered how Wednesday, who had only known life with Hurley, would cope with the loss.
To help her adjust, they decided to adopt again. Shortly after Hurley’s passing, they brought home another pit bull, Pugsley, an 8-month-old rescue with a lovable, goofy personality. His arrival brought joy back to Wednesday’s life. “I hadn’t seen her smile or have any kind of joy since Hurley passed away,” Scott remembers. The two dogs quickly bonded. They had very different personalities. Wednesday had her sassy, “old-lady” attitude. Pugsley was the playful “nerd,” full of energy and love.
Pugsley brought laughter and comfort into the home, especially for Wednesday. Scott says his presence was exactly what the grieving pup needed, and their strong bond grew even deeper. Today, the pair frequently appear on Scott’s Instagram and TikTok accounts. Their charming friendship and silly personalities captivate thousands of followers.
From snuggling to dressing up for Scott’s hilarious “Neighborhood Watch” series, Wednesday and Pugsley have become fan favorites. Their close bond has helped Scott spread her message. She wants people to know that pit bulls are not the dangerous animals they are often made out to be.
With over 107,000 Instagram followers, A Tale of 2 Pitties continues to grow. Scott hopes her platform helps change the perception of pit bulls. She wants to showcase them as the loving and loyal dogs they are. “Pit bulls still have this horrible reputation of being dangerous,” Scott explains. “Wednesday and Pugsley are helping me show the world that that’s simply not true.”
Scott’s love for rescuing pit bulls isn’t ending with these two. “I’m never going to stop adopting,” she says. “Each dog will be a different experience, and they’ll change me in different ways, leading me to new places.” Scott advocates for rescue animals through her personal experience. She continues to prove they deserve a chance at a loving home. She shows that pit bulls especially deserve this chance.
