How we write an answer
The format every answer follows, the organisations we point to, and the limits.
Every answer on the site follows the same format, so you always know where to look.
The format
- Short answer. The answer itself in one line, before anything else.
- Quick explanation. One or two sentences that say why, or how.
- Three key facts. The details people most often need, such as how long something takes, what you need or the main thing to watch out for.
- The full answer. How it works, step-by-step instructions where the question is a task, common mistakes and misconceptions, and a short list of follow-up questions.
- Further reading. The organisation whose own pages cover the topic, so you can check details that change.
Where we point you
We name the organisation that owns each kind of topic:
- Food safety and storage: USDA FoodSafety.gov, including its safe minimum internal temperatures.
- Weather, sky and nature: NOAA’s National Weather Service, NASA, the USGS, the U.S. Forest Service and university cooperative extension services.
- Words and usage: Merriam-Webster and other established dictionaries.
- Pay, tax forms and banking terms: the IRS and other official agencies. These pages explain how things work and are not advice.
- Cars and travel: NHTSA, the TSA and your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
- Pets: the ASPCA, the American Kennel Club and, for anything health-related, your veterinarian.
- Tech and apps: the maker’s own help pages, such as Apple Support, Google Help and Microsoft Support.
What every answer avoids
No news, no named living people, no prices and no invented numbers: we do not quote surveys or percentages we cannot stand behind. Cooking pages give USDA safe internal temperatures where meat, poultry, fish, eggs or leftovers are involved, and we never publish home canning instructions for low-acid foods.
Limits
Menus and buttons move between app and system versions, and rules and forms change. Where a detail may differ, the answer says so. Nothing on the site is professional advice.
