When Vladislav Duda fled war-torn Ukraine for Romania, he carried one cherished possession—his orange kitten, Peach. Little did he know, this small companion would become his savior during a life-threatening ordeal.

While crossing treacherous mountains on the Romanian border, Duda and his group were caught in a brutal snowstorm. Slipping into a ravine, he became trapped and separated from others. As temperatures plummeted well below freezing, Duda faced a long, desperate night with little hope of survival.

“The cat was warm and was warming him … so he saved his life,” Benga explained. The bond between them gave Duda the strength to hold on as help arrived.
