Senior Dog Tied to Picnic Table with Heartbreaking Note Finds Hope and Love

In Syracuse, New York, a 17-year-old senior dog named Max was found tied to a picnic table in Schiller Park. He was alone and confused. His weary body rested on the cold pavement. Though Max couldn’t express his plight, a note duct-taped nearby told his story. The heartbreaking message read, “I’m a good boy. My name is Max. My owners can’t take care of me no more. Please help me!”

Local dog advocates, including the dedicated team from Cuse Pit Crew, quickly sprang into action after learning about Max’s situation. “We know this is emotionally draining to look at,” the group shared in a Facebook post, highlighting Max’s abandoned state. With the help of Syracuse Police and Dog Control, rescuers hurried to bring Max to safety. He was soon transported to an emergency vet for care.

Max’s condition was concerning — his body was frail, and he appeared emaciated. But with love, attention, and nutritious meals, Max’s health steadily improved. His thin frame filled out. Soon, the once lifeless look in his big brown eyes was replaced with a sparkle of hope.

As Max began to recover, his personality started to shine. His foster family described him as a joyful dog with a zest for life. “He loves to run around,” Max’s foster parent shared in a heartwarming Facebook post. “His vision and hearing aren’t the best, but his nose works 110%. He can smell food or treats a mile away!” Max also relished his daily walks. He showed the world that, despite his age, he still had plenty of energy. He also had love to offer.

Now thriving under the care of HumaneCNY, Max is searching for a forever home. Maureen Davison, Executive Director of HumaneCNY, expressed her hopes for this sweet senior pup. “Max will need a home with someone who understands the needs of senior dogs. These needs include limited vision and hearing.” He truly is a goofy boy who has a lot of love to give.”

As Max awaits his perfect family, his rescuers are confident. They believe this lovable “good boy” will find a home where he can spend his golden years. He will be surrounded by love, compassion, and comfort. After all, every dog — especially one like Max — deserves a happy ending.
