“All she had to give was whatever she could find on the streets and her entire heart.” ❤️
In a touching tale of kindness, dog lover Niall Harbison has embarked on a mission. He aims to provide fresh food to stray dogs in Koh Samui, Thailand. Initially, this compassionate act was simply about nourishing the local pups. Soon, it blossomed into a heartwarming bond with one special dog named Snickers.
The Story of Snickers
Harbison first met Snickers, a 4-month-old puppy, in his neighborhood last year. Belonging to a local family, Snickers enjoyed her early puppy days surrounded by children who adored her. Unfortunately, as she grew older, she was left to fend for herself, facing the many dangers of street life. “The kids love the puppies for a couple of weeks, but then they are on their own to live with the dangers of traffic and everything else a dog faces in the jungle,” Harbison explained to The Dodo.
Despite her tough circumstances, Snickers quickly became one of the 1,000 dogs Harbison fed daily. However, she stood out from the pack. Unlike the other pups who showed their gratitude with tail wags and kisses, Snickers decided to express her appreciation through gifts.
A Unique Gesture of Gratitude
Her first present was a single flip-flop, which Harbison found both amusing and heartwarming. “It was a woman’s size, but it felt as if she was saying to me, ‘Here you go, you could do with a new set of shoes,’” he recalled. From that moment, Snickers began bringing Harbison a new item every day—anything she could find on the streets, from lone shoes to muddy children’s toys.
“All she had to give was whatever she could find on the streets and her entire heart,” Harbison shared on X. This delightful behavior, while baffling, reminded him of domesticated dogs who often bring toys to their owners as a sign of affection. “I genuinely think she is trying to show kindness and possibly play,” he noted.
A New Life at Happy Doggo
After a year of daily gifts, Snickers’ luck took a turn when Harbison, who runs a rescue organization called Happy Doggo, decided to take her in as a resident. His goal was to help her find a forever home and teach her how to enjoy life as a dog.
Although Snickers had become skilled at retrieving items, she had never learned to play. Fortunately, another resident dog, Teddy, quickly stepped in to teach her the ropes. “Snickers has never played fetch in her life,” Harbison wrote. “As a street dog, she was too busy avoiding dangers like big trucks to ever be able to relax.” But with Teddy’s help, Snickers mastered the game in just ten minutes!
A Gift for Snickers
One of the most memorable moments for Snickers came when Harbison presented her with a box filled with new toys, a collar, and a bandana to welcome her to Happy Doggo. “After giving me over 100 presents on the streets, it was time to give her an entire gift set of her own,” he shared on X. The joy on Snickers’ face as she played with her new toys was undeniable, and after a long day of fun, she curled up in her bed, dreaming of a future family.
Looking for a Forever Home
Today, Snickers is still on the lookout for her forever family, but Harbison is optimistic about her future. With her playful spirit and kind heart, he believes it’s only a matter of time before the right family comes along. “Her gifts are always creative and from the heart,” he remarked. “She deserves her own humans to share her kind heart with.”
