But what she really wants is to live with a family.

In May, Sky was surrendered by her family, and separated from her bonded littermate. Deaf and all alone in a shelter, Sky didn’t have much to look forward to.

Thankfully, Elli Frank noticed the big white dog and decided to foster her. With three dogs at home, Frank wasn’t planning on taking in another animal. But Sky reminded her so much of her own deaf dog, Jasmyne, that she couldn’t resist.

The only problem was that Jasyme tends to get a little scared and reactive in response to unfamiliar dogs. So for now, Frank has been keeping Sky separated from her other dogs in a restored barn on her property.

During the day, Frank and Sky spend lots of quality time together doing fun activities.

“We go hiking on local trails,” Frank told The Dodo. “She absolutely loves the pond. She loves watching the frogs and trying to catch the frogs and getting as muddy as possible.”

But come nighttime, Frank has to put Sky to bed in the other house. It breaks her heart that she can’t just cuddle up with her in bed.

“It’s hard for me to leave her,” Frank said.

Every morning, Frank goes into the barn and wakes Sky up. Because she’s deaf, Sky doesn’t always notice when Frank enters the room, so Frank will give her a gentle pet to greet her.

“Without fail, every time I wake her up, she is so excited to see me,” Frank said.

In fact, Sky is such an outgoing dog that she wags her tail every time she meets someone new.

It goes without saying that Frank adores Sky. But she has her hands full with her other three dogs, and it wouldn’t be fair for Sky to have to stay alone in the barn long-term. So Sky is currently looking for a permanent family to live with.

Sky’s ideal family will have enough time to invest in a dog who’s still learning and growing. Mr. Bones and Co., the nonprofit managing Sky’s adoption, will set up anyone who’s interested in taking her with a top deaf dog trainer.

Frank knows that Sky would make a wonderful addition to a household.

“Sky will keep you laughing all day; she is as hilarious and goofy as she is loving and cuddly,” Frank wrote on Instagram. “She loves being around people but will happily hang by herself as well.”

Even though it’s going to be extremely difficult for Frank to say goodbye to Sky, she knows what Sky deserves is a family she doesn’t have to be separated from.

“I cannot stress how much I love Sky, but also how much she is ready to find her way home,” Frank said.
