A tiny puppy named Toffee was found abandoned at a pagoda temple in Cambodia. She was in terrible condition—her eye was severely injured and protruding from her face. Alone, scared, and in pain, her future seemed uncertain.
Luckily, Toffee was quickly rescued by Animal Rescue Cambodia, a partner organization dedicated to helping animals in need. She was promptly given medication to alleviate her pain and treat the infection. Miraculously, her injured eye began to shift back into its socket. Despite her small size and young age, Toffee showed incredible resilience and began to recover rapidly. It was uncertain whether she would regain vision in her injured eye. Her caretakers decided to wait and see how it healed.
Toffee’s story took a turn for the better when Dr. Teresa, a veterinarian working at Animal Rescue Cambodia, decided to adopt her. She renamed the brave little puppy “Rhum” (the Pirate Pup). As Rhum grew stronger and healthier, it became clear that her injured eye would need to be removed. This was necessary to prevent future complications. After the surgery, Toffee, now Rhum, adapted quickly and embraced her new life.
Today, Rhum thrives in the beautiful Mondulkiri province of Cambodia, surrounded by forested mountains, waterfalls, and rolling hills. She spends her days joyfully running around her new home. She guards the avocado orchard behind her house. She embarks on adventures in the scenic countryside. Thanks to the love, care, and medical attention she received, Toffee’s story is now one of hope, healing, and happiness.
