The Good Samaritan who found the dog immediately reached out for help. Julie Christofferson, a local animal advocate, shared the heartbreaking discovery on Facebook, where she explained the dog’s dire condition. “Her hair loss was severe, caused by thousands of fleas,” Christofferson wrote.
The dog, now named Cardi B, was alive despite her poor health. Her rescuer was determined to give her a chance. Sarah Barney, a friend of Christofferson, stepped up and rushed Cardi B to the vet for emergency care.
Stray Rescue of St. Louis Steps In
Cardi B was transferred to the Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL), where she received urgent medical attention. The team was relieved to find that Cardi B was malnourished and weak. However, she had not sustained any broken bones. She also had not suffered severe injuries.
The staff at SRSL showered Cardi B with love from the moment she arrived. Despite her age and limitations, Cardi B’s will to live shone brightly. “She hadn’t walked in a long time. We helped her move with a sling. She was so excited to sniff around and enjoy the sun!” SRSL wrote on Facebook.
A Miraculous Transformation
Within just a week, thanks to consistent love, medical care, and proper nutrition, Cardi B’s condition improved dramatically. Her rescuers even provided her with a custom set of wheels. This allowed her to move freely. She rediscovered her love for life.
“She’s 13 years old, and finally ready to live the life she deserves,” SRSL shared on social media. Cardi B’s playful spirit returned, and she was often seen rolling around, eager to explore her surroundings.
Cardi B Finds Her Forever Home
As her health improved, so did her personality. Cardi B’s glossy coat grew back, and her once frail body became stronger. She now enjoys long walks, swims, and even chases after balls. Her new foster family has welcomed her with open arms. Cardi B has fully embraced her second chance at life.
“She loves being on a big, cushy bed, right next to her new family,” SRSL said. “Now that she knows what attention and love feel like, she craves it all the time.”
